Maximilian joined EDGE as a Ph.D. student in April 2024. Under the supervision of Michael Zumstein and within the Cluster of Excellence “Microbiomes Drive Planetary Health”, Maximilian will be working on identifying enzymes responsible for the biotransformation of pharmaceuticals by microbial communities present along the wastewater system.

Before joining EDGE, Maximilian obtained his B.Sc and M.Sc. degree in chemistry at the University of Vienna, where he specialized in bioanalytical and environmental chemistry. His previous research projects encompassed quantifying mycotoxin traces in infant foods and animal matrices as well as exploring the behavior of nanoparticles in simulated aquatic environments.
