In this new study, 32 in-depth interviews revealed that these groups share public worries about the health risks of microplastics, coupled with uncertainty about their sources and pathways. Many participants expressed frustration and powerlessness in addressing the pervasive presence of plastics. They emphasized the need for systemic regulatory changes, including stricter bans and economic policies, to mitigate risks.
The study suggests that achieving meaningful solutions requires collaboration and active participation from all actors within the food system.
