New Publication in Journal of Risk Research Reveals Perspectives on Microplastics Pollution Along the "Farm-to-Fork" Foodchain

While concerns about the impact of microplastics on human health are growing, there are still significant knowledge gaps, especially concerning the perspectives of stakeholders across the "farm-to-fork" food chain, such as producers, processors, distributors, and regulators.

In this new study, 32 in-depth interviews revealed that these groups share public worries about the health risks of microplastics, coupled with uncertainty about their sources and pathways. Many participants expressed frustration and powerlessness in addressing the pervasive presence of plastics. They emphasized the need for systemic regulatory changes, including stricter bans and economic policies, to mitigate risks.

The study suggests that achieving meaningful solutions requires collaboration and active participation from all actors within the food system.
