The recent debate on effects of plastic debris and microplastics in the aquatic environment has raised the awareness that contaminants reach the aquatic environment not only in dissolved, but also in particulate form. It has been recognized that both the plastic particle as a physical entity and the plastic particle constituents, i.e. additives, as chemicals may cause adverse effects to the ecosystems. Microplatsics pollution control must limit emissions at the source.
