Felix Machold joined EDGE as M.Sc. student in March. In his master’s thesis he will develop an approach to generate human pharmaceutical metabolites using in-vitro metabolic systems and study the environmental biotransformation of these metabolites. The thesis aims to establish a framework to elucidate if and how the environmental fate of human metabolites differs from their respective parent pharmaceuticals, and how common metabolic modifications affect the biotransformation kinetics and pathways of pharmaceuticals in wastewater.
Felix earned his B.Sc. in Environment and Bioresources Management from BOKU Vienna. Alongside his studies, he gained practical experience as a lab technician in the research lab of a pharma company. He is currently pursuing his master’s degree in Environmental Systems: Processes – Pollution – Solutions at the University of Vienna.
